Like I said last week, don't wonder why lay people hate lawyers. They hate us because we act like instruments of the devil. Workers' compensation benefits in Iowa has turned into a con game played by insurance fools with little to do except justify their own sorry existence while they promote the float and their own job.
On this one day my client from Florida who drove a truck over-the-road and across the country was told he had to come back to Iowa during the winter to get medical care and to sit in a terminal to live and serve out the "healing period". I kid you not. The entire process with OTR truckers is to make their recovery so unpleasant, that they quit so the employer no longer has to pay them during the healing period. If anyone thinks someone is being fooled, you're naive. No this isn't a communist country, it's Iowa. A surprising place where we now treat people like animals in a zoo. Here is the letter I sent to the insurance maggot.
Dear Defense Lawyer:
Interesting that the employer picks the doctor, authorized him to treat your employee, then when he tries to treat the patient-employee the employer lawyer's up, throws up your hands to say "Wait, now we want a second opinion." And if that doesn't pan out will the employer then get a third opinion?
And you wonder why people hate us? They see you, the corporate defense attorney as the instrument of what is destroying their life; the one taking food off the table where their children eat. To them it looks like a game; a game that cares not about them as people, they are caught up in a corporate shell game of hiding the pea - screw people we care only about profits. Your side has to assume every injured person is a liar, that way you don't have to care what you do to them. It's only that assumption that allows you to sleep at night.
You do the bidding of the profit makers no matter how insane the direction. Do you think they have a legitimate reason to hate lawyers?
