Today's Vote Puts a Pall on the Fall
Mike Glover, a political writer for the Associated Press writes today in the Seattle Times and has a an excellent article on Iowa’s anti-gay sentiment and what it means to the Supreme Court retention vote. “Sleepy judge vote a focal point of Iowa election.” In this piece he points out the polling and population numbers in Iowa. It’s become a war of words where the proponents of the anti-gay movement, who really have no sound reasoning backing up their agenda, are swaying voters with emotion and ungrounded fears.
I for one am surprised at the strength of the opposition. I'm rather shocked that Iowans who normally are tolerant and considerate of others seem to have shown a high level of mean spirited sentiment. It's that sentiment pushing me to cover this story.
Has anyone considered the way those with children who are gay might feel? This vote cuts a lot deeper than people are thinking it does. If my child were gay I'd be pretty upset with my friends who are attacking them. Most Iowans with gay children wouldn't say a word publicly, but I have to believe they will not forget those who who so publicly did in opposition.
It's going to be a long cold winter in Iowa.
